I follow a few dozen blogs, forums and other sites about social media optimization, so it’s tough to pick just a few “best” articles about using social media as a marketing tool, but here goes… (I’ll dip into my 500+ articles stored in Delicious - it’s like bookmarking links to your desktop, only it’s to the web and you can share those links with other people.)
- I love that Stephen Lodge used his Squidoo page to list Squidoo and other highly effective ways of advertising and marketing your business for free and low cost.
- SME Web blogger Justin Allen on Solving the Social Media Measurement Problem (a subject I track closely, since I gather social media metrics for some of my clients.)
- Kristie Wells of Social Media Club reported on social media being used to track Hurricane Gustav: A Ning.com site was put up the day New Orleans was to be hit, in order to aggregate content from a variety of sources, including; Flickr, Twitter, YouTube, Utterz, Technorati, etc. These platforms are emerging tools for emergency planning and crisis communications. Fascinating stuff!
- Canadian newswire company, CNW Group launched its Social Media Release (SMR) and they did so using the SMR as the platform. Cool, but not new… see this precursor that originally called itself a social media press release (SMPR) which, in turn, was preceded by this social media news release (SMNR).
Give them a read - let me know your thoughts! Back to my overstuffed RSS feed reader!
